It’s always DNS: Monitoring dynamic DNS environments with Checkmk
Checkmk offers multiple powerful options for monitoring DNS and the possible issues that can arise around its configuration and availability. However, DNS problems can be difficult to diagnose, especially in environments which are dynamically configured so that the configuration can change regularly, and misconfiguration in parts of it might not be immediately transparent. We developed a new open-source extension for Checkmk to fill a gap in the DNS monitoring toolset. We describe situations in which we encountered this monitoring gap, how the extension covers it and what its limitations are, and we show you how to install and configure it headlessly in the open-source RAW Edition of Checkmk.
